8mm Lebel - French language site devoted to the 8mm Lebel cartridge in all its variations.

8mm Mauser- French language site devoted to the 8mm Mauser cartridge in all its variations.

.410 Shotgun Resources-  More info than you ever thought available about .410 guns and ammunition. Sections on Nostalgia and Cartridges have lots of cartridge related info.

AAA Munitions-  Maker of reproduction Civil War artillery ammunition using inert materials and adding "windows" to view the interior.

Ammo Guide Interactive - Interesting site aimed at reloaders with loading data, but also many features useful to collectors as well. "Cartridge ID and search" tool allows entry of cartridge dimensions (exact, greater or less than, or with tolerances) and will return list of those meeting specs entered. Some features are free but site has $9.95 per year fee for full access membership.

* Ammo - One - Collectible ammunition, hard-to-find ammunition, rare ammunition in singles ONLY (except for collectible and rare .22 boxes), rifle cartridges, pistol cartridges, European cartridges, military cartridges, rimfire cartridges, British cartridges and shotgun shells.

Adazon Labels- A source for the proper labes to be used when shipping ammunition in the U.S. Also has a good summary page on how to ship ammo.

* AmmunitionPages.com - A very attractively done site on the full range of ammunition topics, including small arms, artillery, grenades, bombs, mines, missiles, etc. Very well done, and the information reflects the author's lifetime of professional service in all aspects of the ammunition field. Some sample areas are free, but full access requires a very modest annual membership fee. This is an excellent resource for a novice, or even a collector brushing up on topics outside their specialty. A few of the most advanced collectors seeking every known headstamp variation on a certain caliber or other trivia may not find what they are looking for, but most people will find it quite useful. Note that this is a new site, with a well thought out structure and huge backlog of information to post as it is converted from notes, records and documents into web content.

Loads of drawings from official sources, many in color showing markings.

Ammunition Specialist Association (ASA Bulgaria) - Multi-lingual site of the Bulgarian Cartridge Collectors

Association of Firearms & Toolmark Examiners-  The professional association for ballistics/crime labs and experts.

Asociación Española de Coleccionistas de Cartuchos: (Spanish Cartridge Collectors Association)

Australian Cartridge Collectors Association- a great site loaded with good stuff on cartridges.

Belts, Links and Magazines for Machine Guns- a great listing wth photos of many varieties.

*   Big-ordnance.com-  A web site devoted to inert ordnance (larger than rifle or pistol ammunition.  Useful identification pages for various types of grenades (hand and rifle) and also submunitions.  ALL ITEMS ARE INERT.  Copies of manuals for sale, etc.

http://www.bocn.co.uk/ - B.O.C.N. has been established to bring together military collectors and anyone interested in military ordnance to share their knowledge and information.  Our aim is to become a valuable resource and aid for anyone dealing with ordnance recognition. Forum, photo galleries, etc.

*   Cannon Collecting-  Features photos and brief stories of some of the many types of cannons being preserved by private collectors. Understanding the guns is an important part of understanding the ammunition.

** Cannon, Machine Guns and Ammunition -Anthony Williams' site authoritatively covering a wide variety of topics.  Emphasis is on aircraft armament, with much on artillery and naval guns as well, along with interesting sections on ballistics and small arms in both historical and current contexts.  Forum for discussion of such topics.  Williams is author of Rapid Fire: The development of automatic cannon, heavy machine guns and their ammunition for armies, navies and air forces.

Cartridge Collectors Association of Edmonton [Canada]- Canadian club

Cartridge Collectors Exchange-  Guy Hildebrand's site with items for sale or trade, plus many very informative examples of interesting items (unusual boxes, bandoleers, cartridge boards, etc).

* Cartridge-Corner.com - Curtis Steinhauer has produced "The Worlds Largest Cartridge Collecting Web Site" which focuses on identification of cartridges.  Massive tables showing dimensions, headstamps, makers, dates, etc with loads of photos.  Very impressive and useful.  Info also available on CD for your future reference. (Note- military 20mm and above are outside the scope of this site).

CivilWarProjectiles.com - Excellent site with lots of information on Civil War era small arms ammunition and artillery projectiles. Note the article on detecting fake Whitworth bolts, among other good stuff.

Cornell Publications- Large assortment of reprinted catalogs from popular and obscure gun or ammunition makers.

Davidsons's Gallery of Guns- Large selection of mainly modern arms.

** European Cartridge Research Association (E.C.R.A.)-  Official website for this respected group.

** European Cartridge Research Association- German Speaking Group- (Patronensammler-Vereingung e V.) Official site of this segment of the E.C.R.A.

European Patent Office-  Here you can search for patent specifications from many countries including the UK and USA. They are available in PDF format and can be saved to your PC or printed directly. This is a "live" site in that the patent specifications come right up to the present day.

Federation of American Scientists- Military Analysis Network- U.S. Land Warfare Systems - Wide ranging source of information and links on many types of munitions from small arms up to artillery, bombs and ships. Other pages for other nations. Site has a distinct "peace and justice" slant, but info appears accurate.

*   George Hoyem and Armory Publications-  Publisher, author, and authority responsible for providing encyclopedic references for the antique small arms and ammunition collector and historian.

The German Codes- German military codes and headstamp markings and lot information PLUS info on many other aspects of German small arms manufacture and inspection, Heereswafenamt organization, RZM codes, etc. Provided by Patrice Colmant from Belgium.

* Gig Concepts Publications- Specializing in publications you won't find from any other source; copies of rare or hard to obtain reference
material essential to the serious collector or researcher. Historical publications, catalogs, intelligence documents, specialized studies. Discounts for IAA members.

Grenades, Mines & Boobytraps- An exceptional resource center with an impressive amount of primary reference documentation on all aspects of this subject, mainly high quality photos of original items and digital scans of original manuals. A military explosives reference site with over 3,000 photos on hand and rifle grenades, mines and fuzes from all over the world. A very comprehensive accomplishment by a Dutch EOD technician.

* Headstamp Identification: North American Rimfire and Inside Primed Cartridges - Extensive listing with headstamp photos or drawings. Another great job by Curtis Steinhauer.

[Headstamps & color codes]- Dutch language site but much of the information is in English.

Histavia-21.org - Exceptionally well done and comprehensive French language site focused on French aviation, and WW2 military aviation matters. Superb section dealing with aircraft munitions (both gun ammo and bombs) of the French forces, and the German Luftwaffe from WW1 through WW2. This is an also home to reach an archived section dealing with a broad range of older small arms and artillery ammunition, Munavia-21.org, which is also an exceptionally well done and informative site.

Inert-Ord.net- A Varied and Detailed Display of Collectable Military Ordnance
with Technical and Historical Commentary

*InertOrd.com- A massive site loaded with all sorts of heavy ordnance type items from cannon ammunition to missiles and mines and grenades of all types. Very well done..

Kalashnikov guns- 7.62x39mm headstamps. Pretty basic

Lowell (Massachusetts) Ordnance sites- several facilities that have been used for widely varying types of ammunition manufacture

Mosin-Nagant cartridges 1907-1917 - Small site with interesting info on 7.62x54R ammunition used in WW1 by Russia and other countries, including archaeological evidence.

MRWRACONORTHEAST- Gary Ball's site specializing in Winchester cartridges for sale. Also has photo and video highlights of the Morgantown Cartridge Show.

** MSELECT- Web page offering software to manage cartridge collections (not ID, but track inventory) and also software to make headstamp drawings. Software in French, English, German, Spanish and Italian. Click on English flag at top left corner for English language.

Munavia-21.org - Exceptionally well done and comprehensive French language site focused on French military ammunition from early muzzle loaders and Chassepot needle fire cartridges to WW2 artillery ammunition. Good section of SFM produced ammo, and extensive list of 37mm Hotchkiss ammo from other countries. This is an archived section, now part of a larger site focused on French military aviation matters, Histavia-21.org, which also has an equally good section on aviation related ammunition.

Municion.org- Spanish language site with loads of photos, tables, ID help for all type of cartridges, and also machine gun links, stripper clips, magazines, mortar ignition/propulsion charges, caseless cartridges, etc. Excellent site, will take some time to explore.

New Zealand Cartridge Collectors Club: NZCCC would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in New Zealand cartridges or related materials.

Pennsylvania Antique Gun Collectors Association - Many excellent "articles of the month" on guns and related subjects will be of interest.

Portuguese Cartridge Collectors Association (APCM) - Forum, articles, etc, all in Portuguese language, but easy to get the gist of things.

Remington Society of America - devoted to "all things Remington" including ammunition, arms, etc.  This collectors group also publishes a superb quarterly Journal.

Reloading Bench - Cartridge Specifications - Dimensioned drawings of hundreds of cartridge specs. Lots of other reloading related info on other parts of this site.

*   RTG Sporting Collectibles- Collectible and obsolete ammunition in original boxes, specializing in US sporting calibers.

**  Russian Ammunition Page (from 12,7mm to 57mm Caliber)Very comprehensive, detailed study of the subject by an advanced collector in Germany.

Sammlermunition.de - Very well done and comprehensive German language site. Among many other things it has great "cartridge of the month" section, page on .22 boxes, various WW2 ammunition, modern combustible/caseless cartridges, etc, etc.

Shotshells - A French/English language site devoted exclusively to shotshells.

Small Arms Ammunition Identification Guide, Volume 1, Small Arms Ammunition up to 15mm- 1985 U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency publication in .pdf format covering military ammunition types from all over the world. [NOTE- This is a 10.6 MB file that may take a long time to download!]

Small Arms Ammunition Identification Guide, Volume 2, 20mm to 40mm Cartridges- 1985 U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency publication in .pdf format covering military ammunition types from all over the world. [NOTE- This is a 3.0 MB file that may take a long time to download!]

Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturer's Institute (SAAMI)- The industry group that sets standards for ammunition.

* Springfield [VA] Arsenal- Site with lots of INERT artillery ammunition, fuzes, etc, for sale. Run by John Morris, an expert in the field..

Swedish Military Ammunition - Excellent site with lots of info on details

Swiss Munitions (Fachgruppe Schweizer Munition)- Well done site loaded with info on Swiss and many other types of ammunition. German Language but still easy to navigate.

Steve's Reloading Pages - Table 6 with hundreds of dimensioned cartridge drawing will be of interest to collectors. The rest of the site has loads of info on reloading, downloadable catalogs, reloading/ammo related company histories, ballistics data, and other neat stuff.

Szczurski - Polish language site with lots of headstamps and links. Helps to know Polish to use this one. Click on the links in the boxes at the top of the page.

World War Cultural Association (Munitions) - Italian language site with extensive information on Italian cartridges, and some others. Part of a much larger site with a wide range of related historical and arms type material, links, etc.

Worldwide headstamp List - Italian language.

WCF Publications - Source of great information on Winchester made ammunition. Dan Shuey is author of the highly regarded 2 volume set "W.R.A. Co. Headstamped Cartridges and Their Variations". Questions answered and research projects can be arranged.
